New Town, Same World

A man moved to a small town. That same morning he went to the barbershop.

"What are the people like here?" he asked the barber.

"Well . . . What were the people like where you came from?" the barber replied.

"Oh man . . ." groaned the newcomer, "don't get me started. You couldn't trust anyone. They were all just out for themselves. They could talk a good talk and put on a 'friendly face.' But underneath, they were all just a bunch of hypocrites and phonies."

"Well," replied the barber, shaking his head, "I'm afraid you'll find people here are pretty much the same."

Later that day another man - also new to town - plopped himself down in the barber's chair.  "Tell me," he asked, "what are the people like in this town?"

"Well . . . What were the people like where you come from?" the barber again replied.

"You know," the man answered, "you couldn't ask for a better bunch of people. They weren't all angels, of course. But most everyone meant well and was decent and kind - especially when you got to know them."

"Well," replied the barber with a twinkle in his eye, "I think you'll find people here are pretty much the same."
